Michael Cameron
My name is SGT Michael Cameron, and I'm in the United States Army. While Serving as a Military Police in Iraq on April 1, 2007 my Humvee was struck by an IED while on a combat patrol. My left foot was almost instantly amputated which led to an amputation below the knee later, my left eardrum ruptured, and my right foot was badly mangled. Due to the powerful blast from the IED, the vehicle rolled over several times. Afterwards, the driver's door and the rear passenger doors would not open. I was forced to climb out of the top of the vehicle due to the resultant fire which threaten the explosives we were carrying. Due to the treat of those explosives the recovery team was not able to rescue me from the vehicle. I was forced to escape the vehicle on my own which caused nerve damage to my right foot. I now currently still hospitalized, awaiting one more surgery on my right foot.
